Article Description : Garam is the Urdu word for warm or hot and masala means spices. Literally garam masala means warm spices. Garam masala is a blend of dry-roasted, ground spices which give warmth feeling in the body. There are many variations of garam masala, which contain from 7 -15 spices. It can include Cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, cumin, green cardamom, black cardamom, coriander, fennel, chilies, nutmeg, bay leaves and mace etc. Which kind of spices you use in garam masala depends, whether it is used to cook vegetables or meat. It also depends on the different regions, e.g. in Punjab usually 7 spices are used to make garam masala. Ground Garam masala can be purchased from Pakistani markets. Always buy garam masala in small quantity, because ground spices loose their flavors and aroma rapidly. It?s better to buy whole spices and make your own at home.
